BoilerMaker 15K Road race. July 11, 2010
Hi,
I'm from Utica, New York, home of the Boilermaker 15k road race that happens Buy Viagra Professional Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed every year in July for the last 33 years. People from all over the country and the world, come and run as well as thousands of local runners. The race keeps getting bigger and bigger every year and it's a favorite event amoung the residents of Utica. A record number of runners signed up for the Boilermaker, exceeding 13,000, with over 11,500 finishing the 15K race. At the end of the race it was Lelisa Desisa, 20 of Ethiopia, who emerged victorious, with a field best of 42:46, breaking the mens record of 42:54 set by Joseph Kimani in 1997. Way to go girl!
There are many volunteers that help and people line the streets cheering the runners on and encouraging the stragglers. Some of the volunteers have been doing it since day one. The event really brings the community together and is a great financial boost for the shop owners, restaurants, hotels and other businesses.
Professional runners from Kenya that go around the country racing for prize money usually win. I think it's somewhere around $10,000 for winning the race.
If you're a runner, this should be one of your goals to run in the Boilermaker Roadrace in Utica, New York.
Here's a quick video on the race.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and I hope that you get your 100 comments and lots of free traffic and sales out of all this.
I am not a runner either but I like to go out and cheer the runners on. There’s such a community pride involved in this race. I like your blog as well.

Hi Steve,
First time here at your blog by way of the 100 comment challenge and I am a great admirer of people who run these races especially those that do so for charity.
In the UK it is always inspiring to see people running the London Marathon to raise money.
I have been lucky enough to see our own Paula Radcliffe win the New York Marathon a few years ago whilst I was on a visit so I know how inspiring it can be when everyone watching is urging the runners on. Your video of the 15k Boilermaker road race really supports this and I can well understand how it brings the comunity together.
Good luck with the challenge Steve.
Regards,
Brian

Hi Brian and thanks for stopping by the blog. Yes this Boliermaker event is something special here. It gets people motivated to exercise and get in shape. Some people have done it every year for 20 years or so. There are many first timers every year and the race gets bigger every year.
They have a wheelchair race too. Some handycapped people do the 15k in their wheel chair. If they make it, the
race director gives them a racing wheelchair for free. Good deal for Paula Radcliffe. Way to go!
Good luck to you in the Jacinta Dean 100 blog comment Challenge. Come back again sometime. Love to have you.

Hi Steve ,
Nice name you have there. LOL I took your advice on the bookmarking Favicon style too. Works like a charm. Never know what you’re going to learn on here. I have to admit, this 100 blog challenge has helped me to meet some great folks and to learn some cool things and see how other people set up their blogs, plus I get traffic and backlinks too.
Not a bad deal.
Good luck to you also.

Hey Steve,
I am not a runner and if I took part in this race it would take me 100 hours!
Well done to those who participate though, looks like a lot of fun and a fabulous way to stay fit.
I also like the sense of community spirit too, would be so nice to be a part of it.

Hi Steve
Very unique. You’re the first blogger to put themselves in a video on their blog. NY state is beautiful for a lower altitude state. Thanks for telling me about the race and its background. The boilermaker race has taken on legs of its own. I’m in no shape to exercise, so I’ll have to stick with watching it on TV. I think that’s $10,000 I’ll never touch a nickel of. The leaves should be turning for you soon. Have you ever thought of selling the beautiful leaves in a 5 pack or 10 pack? You have a unique resource in your back yard.
Thanks for the post.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for stopping by the blog. It was a really bad video too. I was not sure about the setting of the video camer and I’m cut out of it. Oh well. One other blogger has a video up. Maybe you didn’t see yet. http://darrenlcarter.com/blog/building-business/overcome-build-achieve.html
He is giving away a free ebook which I highly recommend. It’s about the reflections of a Heroshima atomic bomb survivor. Really cool read.
Good luck in the 100 comment challenge.

Hi Steve
Am from UK, never know about this race that happens in NY. I can imagine how exciting it would be when the race happens in NY, would feel like complete celebration and festive season.
One of our fellow buddies on the 100 blog post challenge, John McNally, is also one of the athletes who has achieved a lot in marathon.
All the best for your 100 blog post challenge.
Cheers!

Hi Steve,
The race sounds like a fantastic event for all involved.
The big annual race for the UK is the London marathon although there are lots of half marathon races happening throughout the year.
Fantastic way to raise both money and awareness for local, national and international charities while boosting the local economy. Win – Win situation.
Enjoy the challenge
Michelle
Great post. Thanks. I just added your site to my myspace page.
Hi Steve,
What an awesome race!
Although somehow running and me do not mix! I am more of a walker! My brother in-law does triathlons and he loves it, I think it is his release from mundane life.
I also have a good friend that runs marathons up in Queensland. She absolutely loves them she does the Gold Coast 40km run every year.
It takes a lot of determination and dedication to do these races. I envy their commitment!
hope everything is going well for you with the challenge. Thank you for being an awesome contributor!
I have a few blogs to go and I have technically finished my blog hopping side of things. I am also taking a table as I go around making sure everyone is doing their best at commenting.
See you back here soon!
Cheers

Steve:
I gotta tell ya that I hate running. There are many other cardio exercises I would rather do than run. I played soccer in high school and we ran all the time. That’s my excuse, I ran so much when I was younger that I grew to hate it.
People that run these marathons and half-marathons are impressive. It takes a lot of time and commitment.
I have many friends that run 5K’s and marathons all over the U.S. I will have to let them know about this particular race.
I should look into volunteering at some races. I live in Atlanta, GA so I could volunteer for the Peachtree Road Race.
Thanks for sharing
Hi Steve,
Wow, that does sound like a lot of work. I believe the body is made to work but that is way too much for me to think about. Give a field of hay to haul or ditch to shovel out. At least I will have accomplished something of worth when I get done at days end.

nice post Steve!
Hi Steve,
Really enjoyed your bolg, very informative, thanks for sharing about this important race in your town. I never really liked running much, too much on the joints, but I used to enjoy walking about 7 miles a day, really miss that. MS sucks! Well, talk to you later, bye.
Hmmmm. I think it would be a great outcome if I just made it to the USA one day
let alone participating in a race. I like the idea of staying fit though and I am going to join a 12 week fitness challenge a bit closer to home next month
Cheers, Michael.

I have yet to join any marathon and before I could even start, I’ll be out of breath. This is interesting though. I love that local activities can be inspiring and something you can be proud off. Thanks for the share!

Hi Steve, I’m in Westchester County… a tad of a ride from you but not impossible. I have a vague memory of the Boilermaker race but didn’t know it had grown to such huge proportions. Amazing… This is very interesting information and to think people come from around the world for it. Awesome! Do you run in it too? Thanks for the information.
Stopped by on my 11th hour visit for the 100 comment challenge.

There was a day that this would have been fun, but unfortunately age and two knee replacements would keep me from participating. I do, however, wish you and everyone that participates in the race much success.
Godd Post Steve!
It has been years since I ran, but I can easily walk that far. Everyone have a wonderful time
Hi Steve,
Thank you. There are many famous people named Andreas. Find more on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas)

I will definitely want to visit the Utica for the Boilermaker Road race when I come to the USA but I have to come in July..
The challenge ended! Wow I never though it would be that time consuming but it worth it! What about you Steve?

Hi Steve,
I am a lazy girl, I think jogging takes a lot of body strength and I feel tired already when I read your post. Before I can join the marathon I should schedule some time to jog a little bit. At least start from 30 mins a day or 2 days. That will do good to my cardiac circulation, right?
Stay healthy.
Connie
The furthest I have walked is 26 miles, and it was too far. At least running that distance only takes around 3 hours instead of all day. Like you Bill, I prefer walking 15 miles a day, that’s a pleasure not a trial.

Hi Steve,
It looks like a very popular run. 15k is a bit too much for me. I’d have to train before the race for a couple of months.
The video is nice and enhances the post.
